Welcome to the Edith Salzer Organic Community Garden!

The Edith Salzer Community Garden, located at 808 Nicolls Road and Carlls Path in Deer Park, is an organic garden space where Town of Babylon residents can cultivate fresh produce and flowers while fostering a sense of community.

2026 Gardening Season

  • Opening Date: April 1, 2026
  • Season Duration: April 1 – November 30 (expanded season)
  • Hours of Operation: 7:00 AM – 8:00 PM daily
  • Water Service: Available from April 15 – November 1

How to Apply

Returning Gardeners

Gardeners from the previous season have first priority for renewing their plots. Renewal applications and payments must be received by March 27, 2026. Any plots unpaid by this date may be reassigned.

  • Renewals must be completed in person at the Parks and Recreation Administration Building ("The Mansion"), located at:
    151 Phelps Lane, North Babylon, NY 11703
  • Bring the following: 
    • Completed application form
    • Signed Rules & Regulations
    • Signed and notarized Hold Harmless form
    • Payment of $35 per plot ($30 for seniors 60+) (Check, Credit or Debit Card only, no Cash)

New Gardeners

If plots are available after the renewal deadline, new applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis starting April 1, 2026.

  • To apply, submit a completed application form by mail or in person:

  • New applicants must also sign the Rules & Regulations and the Hold Harmless form (notarization required).

Garden Rules & Guidelines

  • Organic gardening only – Chemical pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers are strictly prohibited.
  • Plot Maintenance – Plots must be cultivated by June 1 and maintained throughout the season. Unmaintained plots may be reassigned.
  • One Plot Per Household – All gardeners must be Town of Babylon residents.
  • End-of-Season Cleanup – Plots must be cleared by November 30 to avoid removal of personal items.
  • Prohibited Items – No invasive plants, trees, bamboo, or marijuana.
