Ocean & Bay Beaches
About Town Beaches:
There are three ocean beach facilities located along the Atlantic Ocean on the barrier island, and two bay beaches on the Great South Bay within the Town of Babylon. These coastal gems—Cedar Beach, Gilgo Beach, and Overlook Beach on the ocean, and Tanner Park and Venetian Shores on the bay—each offer their own unique charm and amenities.
Seasonal Beach Permit
Babylon Town Residents can purchase a seasonal beach permit for convenient access to all beach facilities. Overlook Beach, Tanner Park and Venetian Shores are open to Babylon Town Residents Only. Cedar & Gilgo beaches are open to the public, and non-residents can pay the daily entrance fee for admittance to either facility. Whether you're looking for a vibrant beach day or a peaceful seaside escape, the Town of Babylon's ocean and bay beaches have something special for everyone.
Facility Fees
Entrance Booth Hours at all facilities is 8AM - 4PM during the summer season, and pre-season weekends and holidays at the ocean beaches. Overlook Beach, Tanner Park and Venetian Shores are only accessible to Babylon Town Residents with a 2025 Beach Permit. Cedar Beach & Gilgo Beach are also free to residents with a 2025 Beach Permit. Without a beach permit, the daily fees at Cedar & Gilgo are: $50 on weekends (Friday -Sunday) & Holidays, and $25 on weekdays (Monday - Thursday). 2025 Holidays are Monday, May 25 (Memorial Day), Friday, June 19 (Juneteenth), Saturday, July 4 (Independence Day), and Monday September 7 (Labor Day). Please note that all Town ocean and bay beach facilities will only accept payment via credit/debit cards. Cash is not accepted.
Pre-Season
Ocean beaches will be open on weekends & holidays only from May 23 - June 24 with Entrance Booth Hours from 8AM - 4PM, and lifeguards on duty from 10AM - 6PM.
Summer Season
Ocean beaches will be open daily June 19 - September 7 with daily Entrance Booth Hours from 8AM - 4PM, and lifeguards on duty from 9AM- 7PM on weekends & holidays, and from 10AM - 6PM on weekdays. Bay beaches will be open daily June 27 - September 7 with lifeguards on duty daily from 10AM - 6PM.

- How many beaches does the Town have?

The Town has three ocean beaches: Overlook (open only to Town residents with recreation permits), Cedar and Gilgo, and two bay beaches: Venetian Shores and Tanner Park. The two bay beaches have spray parks and boat launching ramps. The Cedar Beach golf course is also located at Cedar Beach and Overlook Beach. The Gilgo Beach Marina is located at Gilgo. Cedar Beach also boasts the Cedar Beach Marina which is accessible by boat and connected to Cedar Beach via a walkway. Camping (41 campsites) is accommodated at the marina for Town residents with full camping facilities available. Camping requires a camping permit which can be purchased at the Parks and Recreation office located at 151 Phelps Lane in North Babylon. For more information call 631-893-2100.

- What facilities can I gain entrance to with a resident beach permit?

A beach permit allows you access to Cedar Beach, Cedar Marina, Gilgo Beach, and Overlook Beach, which are all located off Ocean Parkway. The beach permit also allows you to enjoy the Town of Babylon’s two bay beaches, Tanner Park in Copiague and Venetian Shores in Lindenhurst.
Please note that a Town beach permit does NOT qualify you for free entrance into New York State facilities including Robert Moses, Jones Beach, and Heckscher State Park.

Non-Residents can pay the daily entrance fee at Gilgo Beach and Cedar Beach during the summer season.

No, animals are prohibited from all Town beaches.
- Who maintains the Town beaches?

All Town beaches open to the public on Memorial Day weekend. Town crews maintain all Town beaches and start work prior to opening day. The Department of Parks & Recreation is responsible for the maintenance of all bathroom facilities at Town beaches.
