Dear Homeowner,
We want to update you on the Town of Babylon’s ongoing efforts to address the unfair tax burden impacting residents in the Farmingdale school district. Alongside New York State Senator Monica Martinez and Assemblyman Kwani O'Pharrow, we’ve been pushing for funding in the upcoming state budget to offset the excessive school taxes Babylon homeowners have faced due to the recent equalization rate disparity.
Beyond budget advocacy, our legal team is submitting proposed legislation to New York State to prevent this issue from recurring. This proposal seeks reforms in how equalization rates are calculated for school districts spanning county lines, aiming to ensure fairer tax apportionments moving forward.
Additionally, the Town of Babylon is taking decisive legal action by filing litigation against New York State and Nassau County. This lawsuit challenges the unjust tax shift and defends the equal protection rights of our residents. We are fully committed to holding those responsible accountable and securing a fair resolution for all Babylon homeowners.
As school budget season nears, we hope this update reassures you that your local government is actively tackling this state-level issue. Thank you for your patience and support as we fight for what’s right. Together, we’ll keep pushing forward.
