North Babylon, NY - The Town of Babylon is thrilled to announce the completion of the resurfacing project at Phelps Lane Park, converting two aging tennis courts into versatile dual-purpose courts for both tennis and pickleball. This upgrade is part of the Town’s ongoing commitment to enhance recreational facilities and cater to the diverse needs of residents.
The newly revamped courts at Phelps Lane Park feature both tennis and pickleball courts, all with freshly painted lines, brand new nets, and other improvements. This initiative addresses the growing demand for pickleball, a sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong, and has been rapidly gaining popularity across Long Island and the nation.
“We are dedicated to improving our parks and enhancing the quality of life for our residents here in the Town of Babylon,” said Deputy Supervisor and Parks Chairman Tony Martinez. “The new dual-purpose courts at Phelps Lane Park not only provide a fresh, updated facility for tennis enthusiasts but also introduce additional pickleball courts to meet the increasing interest in this exciting sport.”
The renovation at Phelps Lane Park is part of the Town’s broader strategy to update and repurpose recreational facilities to better serve the community. This project follows the successful introduction of pickleball courts at Zahn’s Park in North Lindenhurst, which saw a significant positive response from the public.
“Our efforts to expand pickleball amenities have been met with overwhelming enthusiasm,” continued Deputy Supervisor Martinez. “We are excited to offer more options for our residents to engage in this fun and accessible sport, promoting both physical activity and community interaction.”
