Storm Update: February 13, 2024 - 3:00PM

Tuesday's snowstorm has winded down here in the Town of Babylon. Our Department of Public Works crews are continuing their efforts to clear the roads. Based on the fact that we received 5 inches of snow, please give our crews 3-4 hours from now to make passes along all Town roads.  Please keep in mind that crews are responsible for clearing and treating 537 centerline miles of roadway  and will continue working to do so. Crews will also be working into the night to salt the roads to prevent icing and re-freezing early tomorrow morning. We thank you for your patience.

Storm Update: February 12, 2024 - 7:30PM

All Town of Babylon Senior Centers will be CLOSED on Tuesday, February 13, 2024 due to expected snowfall. Senior Centers include: North Amityville Senior Center, Spangle Drive Senior Center, Tanner Park Senior Center and Wyandanch Senior Nutrition Center.

Initial Update: February 12, 2024 - 4:00PM

WEATHER ALERT: The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for Suffolk County that will be in effect from 4AM until 6PM on Tuesday, February 13th. The NWS forecast currently calls for 5-10 inches of snow throughout Babylon with high winds and treacherous driving  conditions likely during the Tuesday morning commute.

The Department of Emergency Management is advising residents to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel on Tuesday. With high winds expected, we are also asking residents to secure any loose outdoor items on their property.

The Department of Public Works is at-the-ready with over 100 pieces of snow removal equipment fully-fueled and ready to go. Crews are now on standby and are ready to respond early tomorrow morning as the snowfall begins to accumulate on roadways. As we make necessary preparations for our plowing efforts, please begin moving vehicles out of the street and into driveways.

The exact forecast of this storm remains uncertain and we advise all residents to prepare for higher accumulations as a matter of precaution.  Clearing main roads to assist any first responders or emergency vehicles will be a top priority for our crews.

The Town of Babylon will provide updates here on our website as well as on social media.
